EXPERIENCE BIO

A LOOK THROUGH TYRELL'S DIGITAL JOURNEY....

When Tyrell was nine years old, he had to do creative writing assignments for school. It was when he started writing these fun and fictional stories that he started his creative journey. Two years later, Tyrell’s creative writing turned into a new medium – drawing. He began to create and draw comic book stories. This continued until he was 13, when he took a digital communications course and learned how to do animations, illustrations and graphic design.

This added fuel to an already growing fire, and Tyrell became obsessed with learning and creating on those platforms. He took lessons from various art workshops facilitated by local comic book artists. He also took inspiration from the world building and story-telling animated works by artists such as Hayao Miyazaki (Princess Mononoke (1997) & Spirited Away (2001)), Akira Toriyama (Dragon Ball), Ron Clements & John Musker (Hercules (1997), Aladdin (1992), & Treasure Planet (2002)).

As he grew, so did his passion to create.

Tyrell majored in Communications, Culture, Information and Technology (CCIT) at the University of Toronto Mississauga (UTM). He picked up on new skills such as animation, illustration, branding, marketing and more. He used those skills to innovate and create multiple projects.

He went on to become a self-established digital artist –  starting with becoming an Animator and Director of two award winning best animated films at the UTM Film Festival. He dabbled in various projects by animating and directing multiple trending music and promotional videos online.

Shortly after graduating in 2017, Tyrell used his illustration skills to become a dynamic illustrator by creating conceptual themes and series, such as  The Commuter Series and the Crimson Void’. Using his polished animation skills, Tyrell added illustration and graphic design to his repertoire by creating multiple cover arts and promotional posters.

Tyrell’s portfolio grew as he took the lead on multiple digital projects and campaigns which taught him key lessons about brand creation and marketing, and also provided him with the tools to create art centred around the themes of information, unity and community.

Tyrell works full time at adidas Canada as a Brand Planning & Content Manager, and in his spare time, he continues to seek inspiration and create art that tells a story that deserves to be heard.
